W/S system of Muktsar Town
The population of Muktsar Town as per
Census 2001 is 83655 Persons and the present population of year 2006
based on increment @ of 1.228% per year censes to 88791 persons. The
prospective population for the next 15 years i.e. up to the year 2021 is
taken as 106549 persons based on 20% increase on the present population
& 30 years prospective population i.e. up to the year 2036 taken as
119868 parsons based on 35% increase on the present population. The
water supply system is designed on 40 gallons (182 ltrs.) per capita per
day. A railway line passes through the Muktsar town divides it in two
parts. The existing water works in on the southern side of the town.
64.49% population of the town lives in this area and 35.51% population
lives across the railway line i.e. on the Northern Side of the Town. The
water in sufficient quantity and pressure do not reach across the
railway line area. More over the present water works does not have any
space to accommodate any new S&S tank/filtration plant. Hence the water
supply scheme of the town is proposed to the design by dividing the town
in two areas namely the Southern & Northern area based on the
topography of the town. The Southern side of the town would be served by
the existing Water Works on Kotkapura Road and the Northern side of the
town i.e. areas across the Railway line would be served by a new water
works proposed at Guru Har Sahai road for which a land requirement of
10.60 acres has been worked out. This land has to be acquired. The
provision of this has been made in the estimate. The population has been
worked out to calculate the water needs of respective areas i.e.
Northern and the Southern area of the town and accordingly the
provisions has been made for the S&S tanks. filtration plant &
distribution network for respective areas.
For the Southern Side of the Town
The proposed
filtration capacity of the Southern side of the Town based on population
of the year 2021 i.e. 68713 persons comes out to 2.75 MGD. Where as
there already exist filtration plants of total 3.1 MGD capacity. Thus
the existing water work is sufficient to meet the ultimate requirement
of designed population of year 2021. Hence no provision of filtration
plant is taken in this estimate. However provision of one No S&S tank
has been taken in the existing water works to full-fill the storage
requirement of prospective population (based on 30 years). To distribute
the water with sufficient pressure in the existing abadies 14484 mtr.
lines has been replaced and 28351 mtr. lines has been proposed along
with construction of one No. OHSR of 300 cum. This is in addition to the
existing pipe line & 3 Nos. OHSR of 227 cum at water works, 908 cum at
Dushera ground and 454 cum at Abohar Road respectively
For Northern Side of the Town
A new water
works has been proposed at Guru Har Sahai road to Cater to the need of
this area. The Canal water to this water works would be taken from
Muktsar minor which is running at a distance of 100 mtr. from the new
water works site to be acquired. An outlet of 23250 K. ltrs. per day
capacity with 600mm i/d RCC piped inlet channel has been proposed for
this purpose from Muktsar minor. The proposed population of year 2021 of
this area comes out to 37836 persons for which a rapid sand filtration
plant of 1.50MGD has been purposed in the new water works area. which
would also include S&S tank of 73500 K. ltrs. ( based on 30 years
population ) and clear water tank of 1725 k. ltrs. capacity. one No.
Pump chamber to house the raw water as well as clear water pumps. The
rating of two No. raw water pump is 7200 LPM of 12 mtr. head (1 working
+ 1 stand by) and 2 Nos. clear water pump sets of 6200 LPM 50 mtr. head
for 908 cum capacity OHSR which already existing in this area (1 working
+ 1stand by) and 2 Nos. clear water pump sets of 1100 LPM 40 mtr. head
for 150 cum capacity OHSR proposed to be constructed at Tibbi Sahib
road(1 working +1 stand bye ). New pipe line 6951 mtr. has been proposed
& 4599 mtr. existing pipe line proposed to be replaced with different
sizes to have equitable distribution of water to different areas of this
side of the town.
