Introduction
Muktsar is a historical city which is
situated on the Ferozepur, Malout Road. The city is divided in the two
portions. One is known as main city area & other is across the Railway
Line. The population of the city as per census 2001 is 83655 persons.
70% of the total population of the city has been provided with water
supply & sewerage facilities. In the year 2008 an estimate has been
framed of Rs. 2438.06 Lacs under the PIDB funds for Mour Raod, BUra
Gujjar Road, Kotli Road, Tibbi Sahib Road and Jallalabad Road which is
across the Railway Line. 95% work under this head has been completed.
Proper functioning of sewer it is purposed to construct 5.7 MLD
capacities Sewerage Treatment Plant. The tender for this work has been
allotted.
A part
from this due to new increased municipal limits, it is purposed to
construct 7.5 MLD Sewerage Treatment Plant for the area Model Town of
Udekaran, Chak Bir Sarkar and rest of the Muktsar City area. The Govt.
Of India has sanctioned the estimate for Rs. 2789.44 Lacs under JNNURM
scheme. After completion of this project 100% city will be benefited.
Muktsar has one of the oldest canal
based water system in Punjab established in year 1925. Muktsar has at
present population of one lac (approx.). At present filtration capacity
of 3.1 mgd based on rapid sand filtration plants is available at main
water works Muktsar. Which is not sufficient for whole of city, to meet
the demand, a separate water works for the area across the railway line
has been proposed, Which would have filtration capacity of 2 MGD with
the total estimated cost of the project to 488.73 lac. (approx.) To
increase the raw water storage capacity it has been proposed reconstruct
the old damaged one no. S/S tank at main water works at Kotkapura road
Muktsar which will cost about one crore rupees. Approximately 10% of the
area of city is not covered with potable water supply for which about
12000 mtr. Pipeline has to be laid, which will cost about 20 lac rupees.
This pipeline will be laid under balance work of estimated
Laying W/S pipe line in various
streets of main city Muktsar with estimate cost of Rs. 81.00 Lac. The
water supply distribution pipelines in the old Muktsar city are about
40-50 years old. Which are worn out and needs regular maintenance? To
avoid any water contamination in the area having worn out old pipeline
an estimate has been prepared to replace these water supply pipe lines
with estimate cost 42.61 lac This estimate has been administratively
approved, but work has not been taken up due to unavailability of funds.
At present potable water is
being supplied to this city from main water works at Kotkapura road
Muktsar with proper filtration and chlorination. Water samples are taken
and tested frequently. However if any sample fails special precautions
are taken immediately to improve the water supply of that locality until
safe potable water supply is restored in that area.
