Sarva
Shiksha Abhiyan is an effort to universalize elementary education by
community-ownership of the school system. It is a response to the demand
for quality basic education all over the country. The SSA program is
also an attempt to provide an opportunity for improving human
capabilities to all children, through provision of community-owned
quality education in a mission mode.
All
children complete eight years of elementary schooling by 2010.
Focus on elementary education of satisfactory quality with emphasis on
education for life.
Bridge all gender and social category gaps at primary stage by 2007 and
at elementary education level by 2010.
Universal retention by 2010.
Village Education Development
Committee (VEDC) is formed in every school and it looks after all the
aspects related to the welfare of the school .

School grant &
Repair &Maintenance grant has been given to all the schools and the
amount has been fully utilized . TLM @ Rs. 500 per teacher has been
given to teachers.
ALTERNATIVE AND INNOVATIVE EDUCATION :-
AIE centres support the
following broad kinds of strategies.
(a)
Setting up of
centres in school-less habitations
(b)
Interventions for
mainstreaming of ‘out of school children ‘.
During the year
2009-10, Rs. 45, 79.050/- has been received under the AIE Component
.All the amount has been disbursed to provide ancillary facilities to
children as well as centres. 252 AIE Centers are running consisting of
4264 Children. Besides a large no. of children from the existing EGS
centres have been mainstreamed.
In January 2010,
there were 252 AIE centres and 4264 children were enrolled in them. The
progress made by the district is shown in the table presented below: -

Apart
from this, the district has upgraded 17 EGS centers into Branch schools.
The grant was sanctioned in the year 2006-07, but these New-School
buildings have been constructed and are functional in the year 2008-09.
2 teachers have been provided in each of these upgraded schools.2 RBC
centres are functioning at Malout and GIdderbaha
Parho Punjab
Utmost
care was also taken of the quality education. Quality is monitored at
different intervals and the main aim of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is to
provide quality education to all children. Under the Parho Punjab
project, all the primary school children are divided into different
groups according to their learning level and they are moved to the
higher group once they achieve a certain level .This programme has been
quite successful in the district .Teachers training have been provided
to teachers under Parho Punjab so that they can learn the new methods
of teaching. Learning enhancement Programmes (PLEP) were also started
and the children were administered tests .In the year 2009-10, 91% of
the children have passed the fifth standard examination. This year also
utmost efforts are being taken to improve the quality of education of
children and get good results.
SC EDUCATION
Under SC
education Vocational Education has been started in 100 schools of the
district .718 sewing machines worth Rs. 7,18,000 have been provided . A
vocational teacher is appointed in each school. The girls will learn
tailoring skills apart from formal education which will be an additional
advantage for them. In the year 2006-07, vocational education has been
started in 30 more schools .In the financial year 2009-10, 8796
girls of 130 schools benefited from this scheme.

COMPUTER EDUCATION
Computer Education has been
started up in 28 schools in the district in the first phase i.e. year
2005-06.This project has got an overwhelming response from the students
and parents alike. The strength in these schools has gone up by
tremendously. In the year 2006-07, computer education has been started
in 69 more schools in the 2nd phase. In the year 2007-08,
computer education has been started in 94 more schools in the 3rd phase
Thus only 15 schools are remaining to be covered under computer
education. The proposal of remaining 15 schools has been sent to the
State Project Office. The ICT project has got a tremendous response and
the results of this project are appreciated by all. The total no. of
beneficiaries under the computer education is 40703.
CWSN
(Children with Special Needs)
As per a recent survey conducted by the
District Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, there are 3327 children in the district
in need of special help. Special care was also given to the education of
the disabled. Medical Camps were organised to give appliances and help
to the physically challenged children. The detailed progress under this

During the Year 2009-10, 6
Resource Rooms have been set up at 6 E.D. blocks. 6 IERT teachers are
appointed in them and 38 IE volunteers have been appointed in them. Home
based education has been provided to 221 disabled children .
The medical camps to issue
disability certificate were held at block level with the help of chief
medical officer. A total of 654 children attended these camps out of
which 456 children with 40% or more than 40% disability were identified
and the remaining children were identified with less than 40%
disability. They have been issued certificates. Apart from this on
every Wednesday on the month disability certificates were made. Medical
camps were organized in our District to make disability certificates.
Two children namely Waris Sharma &
Harpreet Singh participated in painting competition held at GSSS (Boys)
Muktsar organized by Child Welfare Council. Both got first prizes. Later
on in Zonal competition comprising Districts Muktsar , Moga, Faridkot,
Ferozepur & Mansa. These children got first & 2 nd positions
they were honouered in Raj Bawan by Honourable Governor S.F. Rodrigues
GIRL
EDUCATION
Special
care was also given to the Girls education .Awareness camps were
organized for community mobilization and Senstisation. The achievement
of outstanding girls was recognized. Besides these exposure visits for
169 government schools (Rs.5000/-per school) have been organised .
Stationery worth Rs.50000 has been given to girl students .Martial Arts
classes have been completed in 31 schools . The Meena CD’s have been
given to all schools.

During the year
2009-10, 2685 teachers, 210 education volunteers appointed in place of
BRP’s, 252 AIE volunteers, 2160 VEDC members received training.
Training instills in the teachers the requisite skills required to teach
the students. DIET gives training to the regular teachers. Resource
teachers take utmost care to train the teachers so that they can further
use their skills in schools.
FREE TEXT BOOKS
Free
text books/ Workbooks and supplementary material was given to all Sc
and non SC children from I-VIII classes . Provision of free books
provides an additional incentive to the children and it gives them the
motivation to go to schools.
