Sewerage System of Muktsar Town

Sewerage System

Muktsar is a historical town & since the year 1971 sewerage system of this town is maintained by our department. Topographically the Muktsar town can be divided in two parts by the existing Kotkapura-Fazilka Railway Line. The majority of the population exists on Southern side of this Railway. Muktsar town has a serious waterlogging problem and the water table below ground level is varying from 6 ft. to 12 ft. depth in the town. The existing length of the pipe sewer is 79 Km. and brick sewer is 18 Km. thus the total sewer length of the town 97 Km. To dispose of the sewage there are three number sewage disposal plants, one at Dushera Ground of 40 BHP rating working as intermediate pumping station, 2nd one is at Ballamgarh Road of 100 BHP rating and the third one is at Jalalabad Road of 75 BHP rating with standby arrangement at each disposal respectively. There is no sewage treatment plant for this town and the raw sewage is being pumped into the open drains namely Bhagsar Drain (for Ballamgarh Road Disposal) and Kotly Drain (for Jalalabad Road) without treatment thus creating pollution, which is being objected by the Punjab pollution Control Board. More over with the passage of time this town has shown growth a lot of new houses have come up. At present 30% of the town is without any sewerage system. To meet the growing needs of the town; Augmentation of the sewerage Scheme Muktsar is needed. Two numbers Treatment Plants of 12.15 MLD capacity at Ballamgarh Disposal & 5.20 MLD capacity across the Railway Line i.e., for the population on the Northern side of the Town. The Cost of laying of sewer lines would be       Rs. 1673.19 Lacs & the cost of two Nos. Sewage Treatment Plants would be Rs. 495.00 Lacs for Ballamgarh Road & Rs.237.68 Lacs for across the Railway Line respectively excluding Departmental charges respectively
